Meet The Stars Of Morzine Sport
As one of the great Alpine centres for sports in France it is inevitable that Morzine has nurtured a number of successful athletes over the years. Here is a selection of some of the current sports stars of Morzine.
Charles Cazaux: Charles is one of the most successful XC Paragliders in the world, having risen through the ranks over the last fifteen years. In 2009 he finished first in the Superfinal World Cup. In 2005 he finished sixth overall in the World Cup and a year later finished fifth at the European Championships.
Alexis Sevennec: As a successful ski mountaineer and sky runner, Alexis has had excellent results in competitions, including second at the European Championship in a relay race in 2012, fifth in the individual event at the same championship and first at the Patrouille de la Maya.
Anthony Chalencon: Anthony Chalencon has not let his visual impairment hamper his sporting career, and is a successful competitor in para alpine skiing, para biathlon and para cross country skiing. He has finished first in a couple of cross country skiing world championship races in his career and will be hoping for victory in the Winter Olympics.
Didier Blanc: Didier is another ski mountaineer, whose results include first in the 2010 team race at the World Championships, as well as first in the World Championship combination rankings. In 2011 he came first in the Pierra Menta and first in the Trofeo Mezzalama.
Johann Baisamy: Johann competed in the snowboarding half pipe discipline. He finished sixteenth at the 2014 winter Olympics and was the French champion in 2011, 2014 and 2015, as well as coming second in the overall world cup ranking in 2013/2014.
Tristan Dugerdil: Competing in the downhill ice skating races, Tristan is one of the top five racers in the world – finishing fourth at the 2016 Red Bull Crashed Ice event.
Yohann Taberlet: Yohann is a paraplegic skier who has competed in the last three Winter Olympics and will be retiring after the event in South Korea. In 2011 he was world team champion in giant and won a bronze medal in combined.
Antonin Guigonnat: Competing in the biathlon discipline, Antonin has had two third place finishes so far in the 2017/2018 season and will be hoping to continue his success for the rest of the season.0
